Parents who wish to enroll their child in Wheeling Catholic School, a K-8 Catholic school in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, will not be denied admission on the basis of race, color, or national origin. Every local effort will be made to provide each child the opportunity to attend Wheeling Catholic School regardless of the financial situation of the family. All families are asked to complete the financial aid request so that the needs of the family can be met. (Diocesan Policy 5110) Diocesan Policy No. 5111According to WV Law, a child must be five years of age on or before September 1 of the year of enrollment to be eligible to enter Kindergarten. Exceptions of the age criteria may be made locally by the administration based upon testing, parent/teacher/principal conferences and observation of the child’s social and developmental performance. According to WV Law, a child must be six years of age on or before September 1 of the year of enrollment to be eligible to enter first grade. Students who have successfully completed Kindergarten in another system but who have not turned six by September 1 may still be enrolled in first grade. Exceptions to the age criteria may be made locally by the administration based upon testing, parent/teacher/principal conferences and observice of the child’s social and development performance. A state issues birth certificate and a record of all required immunizations must be submitted at the time of reenrollment. Students who transfer into our state from another are required by WV Law to have a recent turberculin skin test administered by a health care facility in the state of WV. Religion ClassesSince religion classes are an integral part of the life of the school, students are expected to attend these classes. Only Catholic religion classes will be taught in Catholic school. Diocesan Policy No. 5911All children entering school in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston for the first time shall have been immunized against diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus with at least 4 doses, polio with at least 3 doses, and measles, mumps, and rubella with at least 2 doses. The last dose of each of these vaccines must be given after the child’s fourth birthday. OtherStudents who attend Wheeling Catholic School and then withdraw to attend another local school may NOT return to Wheeling Catholic School at a later date. The Principal, Faculty, and Pastors will confer for any possible exceptions to this policy. Students are not accepted into the 8th grade unless the family has recently moved to the area.
