Guardian Angel Scholarship ProgramIn the last half-century the average school enrollment rose more than five times—from 127 to 653. Research has found that poor students and those of racial and ethnic minorities are more adversely affected - academically, attitudinally, and behaviorally - by attending large schools than are other students. Wheeling Catholic Elementary School offers choices in education for those students and families who are given few options. Nestled in center city Wheeling, West Virginia, Wheeling Catholic Elementary School educates students from preschool through eighth grade. Our open door policy has made us the learning center of ethnic diversity for the community. WCES affords the opportunity of quality small school education while continuing to support the choice of parents to share gospel values with their children. Our mission is to provide quality education in youth, build on the multicultural diversity of the community, cooperate with existing community resources, and incorporate rapidly developing technologies. As a school, we hope to help form children into well educated, faith filled, and self-sufficient citizens. Through the Guardian Angel Scholarship assistance program, WCES assists those children and their families that might otherwise fall through the cracks. For schools like WCES, encompassed in the urban core of the city, the effects of poverty and community are evident. The current enrollment of the school reflects the social, economic, and racial mix of the neighborhood and the boundaries our children face daily. By providing scholarship assistance to WCES, you directly give children the extra boost needed to become successful in their future education and life! |
