WCES is GOING
GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Wheeling Catholic Elementary School is Going Green!
Wheeling Catholic Elementary School has had enough of ALL the plastic bags from
the grocery store and we decided to do something about it. Mrs. Jessica Glenn, Kindergarten
Teacher at Wheeling Catholic Elementary School, was the catalyst for the
school’s decision to start to think green. She thought selling reusable grocery
bags might be the best way for our school community to become environmentally
conscious. The theory behind the bags is simple - reusable bags reduce
consumption and as a result promote "waste wise" customers. When consumption
is reduced so is the impact on the environment.
Dr. Judy Stechly, principal of WCES, adds: “It is my hope that our fundraiser is
one way that we are helping others to care for God’s creation for our children
and their children.” Caring for God’s Creation is a key theme under Catholic
Social Teaching that was highlighted in the United States bishop’s reflection
Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship.
The fundraiser continues through March. Through the GreenSak company, WCES is
selling three types of bags: bottle saks, standard green saks, and foldable saks.
The bags are $3.00 a piece.
The GreenSak company slogan is, “You Don’t Have to Do Everything, But You
Should Do Something.” Well, at Wheeling
Catholic we sure are trying – one person at a time – one bag at a time.
We would love for you to visit our school to talk about the WCES Going Green Program,
